About the Course
This dynamic course loaded with evidence-based facts will focus on fasting and nutrition, including the science of fasting, clinically based evidence and research, and the practical and clinical applications of fasting. Participants will also examine the effects of nutrition, and genes modulated by nutrients on aging and life span ranging from simple organisms to humans. The course will introduce the biology of aging, as well as to the mechanisms for the extension of the healthy life span, and the prevention of age-related diseases.
The course is qualified as an educational activity and meets the educational expectations of Registered Dietitians, Nutritionists, and other healthcare professionals by providing compact, topic-based research summaries on the benefits of dietary intervention. Osama Hamdy, MD, PhD
Osama Hamdy is the Medical Director, Obesity Clinical Program Director of Inpatient Diabetes Program Joslin Diabetes Center Associate Professor of Medicine Harvard Medical School Boston, MA.
Osama Hamdy, MD, PhD is a world expert and recognized thought leader in area obesity and nutrition in diabetes. Dr. Hamdy is a senior endocrinologist and Medical Director of the Joslin Obesity Clinical Program and Director of the Inpatient Diabetes Program at Joslin Diabetes Center.
He is also Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. Plus his 34 years of extensive clinical experience, he is very active in nutrition and obesity clinical research. His lab led to many innovations and discoveries that changed how we currently manage obesity in patients with either type 2 or type 1 diabetes.
Joanna Mitri, MD, MS
Dr.Mitri has an interest in lifestyle-based interventions and prevention and management of type 2 diabetes and cardiometabolic disease. She is currently an Endocrinologist at the Joslin Diabetes Center and is an Instructor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School and co-chair the Clinical Practice Guidelines at Joslin Diabetes Center.
Dr. Mitri practiced in Southern Massachusetts for a few years prior to joining the Joslin Diabetes Center. Her clinical practice focuses on type 2 diabetes, lipid disorders, and cardiovascular risk reduction. Her research has focused on the effect of lifestyle-based interventions in diabetes. Dr. Mitri has published in several peer-reviewed journals on this topic.
Jan Kielmann, DCN(c), MS, CNS®, IFMCP, RHGc
Jan Kielmann is the Director of Nutrition at Functional Wellness. He is a respected and beloved teacher and leader in the Integrative Medicine field, currently pursuing a Doctorate in Clinical Nutrition (DCN) at Maryland University of Integrative Health.
He holds a Masters of Science Degree in Human Nutrition (with honors) from the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut, one of the most advanced scientific and evidence-based nutrition programs in the country. In addition to that, he is board-certified in Clinical Nutrition (CNS®) by the American Nutrition Association, and Institute for Functional Medicine Certified Practitioner (IFMCP), both the most prestigious institutions in the country.
Romina Inés Cervigni, PhD
Romina Inés Cervigni, Nutritionist Biologist, obtained a PhD from the Open University (UK) focusing her attention on the cellular and molecular mechanisms of cancer cells, through basic biology research. She collaborated as a postdoctoral researcher in the field of neuroscience with the National Research Committee (CNR) in Naples and the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University in Milan, Italy.
Her professional career continued at the Polytechnic University of Marche, Italy, with a Master in Nutrition and Dietetics. This allowed her to combine the preparation and knowledge in different pathological areas with tools to optimize the healing potential of nutrition.
Together with the whole team at the Valter Longo Onlus Foundation, she helps patients suffering from a wide range of diseases to integrate food therapy with standard pharmacological treatments.
